What are you? pick one?
Indoctrination of the schooling system.
It’s a funny thing this world during an era of technology. Pick a category and stick to it it tells us. Do not divert from that or else... do not talk about that subject in question unless you hold a university degree in them. Pick one thing in life and stick to it. This is what most of us are told as youngsters. No matter if we like it or not so long as your chosen job will pay the bills. “What are you going to be when you grow up?” How many of us heard this question as a child? I heard it from my parents, relatives, teachers and even kids at school ask each other this question. This is a learned question. It is not something children would ordinarily think about unless it has been put into their head to do so.
It is just another message we are given as children that eventually sets in the belief that we can only be one thing in life.
Children that are allowed unlimited time to play do not waste time thinking of such things and it definitely wouldn’t be in a serious manner even if they did. It would be something like '“I wish i were a bird, so i could fly” Unfortunately and mainly due to schooling we have been indoctrinated at a young age to be prepped for working in jobs that do not serve in feeding the happiness of one’s soul. For many of us, our day jobs are a means to an end and ultimately they keep the rich rich and the poor, poor.
I grew up thinking i had to pick something, trouble was i wanted to be lots of things my interests spread far and wide, and if i had that interest in a certain thing i usually found i could do it quite well. Sometimes i was just average at any given interest sometimes i could do it excellently, but it didn’t matter. All that mattered was that i felt a need to try out that which i took a fancy in and when i got what i needed from it or learned what i needed, i simply moved on to the next thing or i would return to something i had done previously. I suppose in todays world of categories and titles i would be told that all i have are hobbies and not a career path and i may receive the diagnosis of having ADHD/ ADD as i can’t stick to anything. When we really sit to consider this for a moment we can easily see the nonsense (no sense) in it.
It’s all just a huge illusion or delusion depending how you see it. let take for example a singer. We say ‘singer’ as one job right? but the singer could also be a writer. If they perform live on stage then they are also performers, which is in the same category as acting. They may also play one of the instruments this would be a musician, and after the performance or music video is recorded they could be one of the editors. It’s easy to see how this one job title is completely idiotic.
Let’s look at another example- A farmer. If the farmer is a holistic one chances are they have had to learn holistic methods of treatment for their animals, this could include herbs, homeopathy etc. Taking care of sick animals is in its own right nursing. Nearly every farmer also has to learn how to assist a pregnant animal in giving birth if she is having trouble, this is midwifery. The farmer may have children, now thats a whole under valued under appreciated full on complex job in of itself!
Recently a fashion designer was discussing current world events happening right now. She made a statement, one that most of us would agree with. She said “end the mass killing of children”. A commenter said “ you are a dress maker, not a spiritual teacher” and my all time favourite “educate yourself.” I would love to know who needs to be educated on such matters! I find it astonishing that one would need a degree to learn why it is wrong to murder children or their parents. It’s always fascinated me how the one’s that scream educate yourself are usually the least in the know at that given time! Remember what happened in 2020? I bet those shouting educate yourselves wished they had now! Ahh I digress… So apparently if you make dresses you can not articulate your feelings on war or any other subject matter. Stick to the needle and thread. or whatever the one thing is that you do for a living.
How did we get here?
I’ll share that i was not a ‘good’ student. I did not enjoy anything about going to school. I did not like the way teachers spoke to me and could never understand why on a beautifully warm sunny day, i was cooped up in a stuffy classroom reading and reciting one of the most boring Shakespearean plays known to man. Pouring different liquids into bunsen burners for chemical reactions, yes i must say this helps me with all the chemistry i engage in on a daily basis and not forgetting it has helped me tremendously in the cooking department…. another complete waste of time. Given how seriously the Government’s of the world make sure you pay taxes on every single thing you could possibly pay tax on, you would think that learning accountancy and how to do your taxes would be on the school curriculum instead of lets say… Algebra.
I was never interested and knew intuitively school for me was a waste of time. A teacher once said to me “ you will be one of those girls pregnant at eighteen, no boyfriend no job and on benefits for your whole life, a loser.” Yes he was a lovely supportive teacher. It was just good fortune that i was/am a rebellious lass and didn’t pay a smidge of attention to him! ( I’m very glad my children seem to have inherited this trait too) I will just mention that many girls in my year ended up this way. The clever one’s, the ones that were well behaved and payed attention in classes. Funny how life can turn out isn’t it. I can honestly and whole heartedly say that there is not, One. Single. Thing, that i learned in school that has served to help me up to this present day. Ah tell a lie, there is one thing that was indeed useful- how to change a fuse in a plug. There, Thank God i went to school.
We are the sons and daughters of a creator that has no limits just look deeply at creation not just with eyes but with heart. Once you have seen it, it can not be unseen and once you have felt it, it can not be unfelt. Are we really to spend our entire lives not following our hearts. Were we truly put here to clean public toilets or to work on factory lines making useless cheaply made rubbish that will only last the buyer a short amount of time before ultimately ending up in a land fill. I truly wonder what this creator of ours thinks about it all. Surely we are many things, we are richly full of possibilities, full of gifts that feed all of life in the most positive of ways.
Weston A. Price was a dentist that travelled extensively all over the world in search of people that lived remotely and therefore had been untouched by modern civilisation. He met many tribes and many groups of people living on their native diets and still living in their native way and that depended on where in the world they were. Something very interesting to note is how Price mentions the multiple talents of some of the native people he met on his ten years of travel. He writes of their superb singing, their strength, and ingenuity They were able to do many things and execute these tasks with excellence.
I believe with complete conviction that we have all come from multitalented beings. I wonder what our forefathers would be thinking watching us now? Somehow though we seem to have forgotten our way. It is my hope we all start to reawaken the multitude of talents that seem to lay dormant in many and make our ancestors proud. Proud of all they did, all their hardships everything they strived to do for continuation of our bloodlines.
Blessings be with you over the Christmas holiday.
